At corporate level, our actions in raising LGBT awareness include:
・Specifying the prohibition of discriminative language and behavior in our Harassment Prevention Guidelines.
・Providing a dedicated intranet page with LGBT-relevant information.
・Promoting an informative E-learning program and certifying those who complete the online exam as an “Ally” (an LGBT supporter). Certified employees will receive rainbow-themed items as a symbol of being an “Ally”. (580 (*3) certified employees)
・Training employees that conduct recruitment activities with basic knowledge of LGBT.
・Implementing a Partnership Certification Rule, which gives employees with partners access to benefits such as subsidized housing (applications are sent to an outside source, and management approval is not required).
・Installing gender-neutral bathrooms at the JT head office building.

JT recognized as one of the most LGBT-friendly companies in Japan with highest-ranking “Gold” status in PRIDE Index 2020 for the 5th consecutive year
Japan Tobacco Inc. (JT) (TSE:2914) today announces that it received “Gold” recognition, the highest ranking in the PRIDE Index 2020(*1), for the fifth consecutive year. The index is organized by “work with Pride”(*2) and evaluates companies’ initiatives related to LGBT and other sexual minorities in Japan.
“We are delighted to receive the ‘Gold’ recognition for the fifth consecutive year. At JT, we position respecting diversity as one of key management challenges. We are strengthening our initiatives across the nation and working to create a work environment more open for all employees. We will continue to actively promote diversity in order to achieve sustainable growth by leveraging the strengths of diverse human capital,” said Koichi Mori, Senior Vice President of Human Resources.
JT believes that embracing diversity and finding value in our differences will lead to its sustainable growth. At JT, diversity can mean, but not exclusive to, differences in gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, as well as experience and expertise.
The company has taken a variety of initiatives to create, develop and enhance the work environment by fostering diversity, where each individual can freely express their own personalities and recognize one another’s differences. We raise employee-awareness on LGBT through implementing training programs, revising our internal policy for a better environment, and fostering company culture which embraces diverse values. These corporate-level initiatives have led branch offices taking part in LGBT-related initiatives locally.
